ROSEHALL RUN RECEIVES INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR CHARDONNAY
ONE OF ONLY TWO CANADIAN PRODUCERS TO WINE AWARD IN INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE
Based in the UK, the drinks business, the world’s leading drinks trade publication, is at the forefront of what is happening in the drinks industry focusing on wine, spirits and beer. It also has a highly popular awards series called The Masters. This successful initiative which has included the Vodka, Tequila and Liqueurs Masters, has been extended to wine. Over the course of 2013 a competition was held to identify the Masters of Chardonnay, one of the world’s most popular grape varieties:
OF ALL the world’s grape varieties, no other can match Chardonnay for its
geographical reach and stylistic virtuosity. From the great grands crus of the
Côtes de Beaune to the “sunshine in a bottle” that represents many people’s
introduction to wine, Chardonnay mingles seamlessly with aristocracy and
proletariat alike…Unsurprisingly for a variety which so often reflects winemaking
technique as much, if not more, than any strong sense of place, the results offer
an intriguing picture of which regions and producers are getting this balance
A select group of judges put aside preconceived ideas about this global grape variety as wines were appraised on style not region. Hundreds of wines were entered representing 18 countries.
The JCR Chardonnay 2011 is described by John Szabo, Canada’s master sommelier as "A compelling vintage of the JCR Chardonnay...(with an) oak profile that allows the hallmark county minerality to play a more prominent role. There's also sufficient flesh and fruit concentration to support the ensemble, not to mention remarkable density and richness, concentration and length.”
The wine sells for $29.95 and is available at the Rosehall Run tasting room, here on our website and at select LCBO Our Wine Country boutique locations.
